Mention Buxton Cricket Club and fans of a certain age will recall the freak snowstorm that halted a match between Derbyshire and Lancashire in 1975. Reports of that incident form some of my earliest cricket memories, but was it such a freak occurrence?
Buxton has its own microclimate and when I got here from Hertfordshire in September 2024, I opened my car door and it was like walking into a fridge. Don’t let the blue sky fool you, it was the coldest I had been for months. Anyway, back to the cricket: It looked like a two-sweater day at least, but it was a nice ground. Hard to imagine now that county cricket was once played here, and it’s a shame that outgrounds such as these are rarely used.
